I strode into the orchestra
A cheery, bustling, place
And surveyed the room, from right to left
For a certain person's face.
But little joy did I there find,
She wasn't in her seat
Nor was she with the band.
So I set myself to questing
For an ever-elusive stand.
Then she entered, aloof and cool
Like a princess enters court
And a slippery worm of nervous doubt
Breached the walls of my mind's fort.
Time slowed to a crawl
As I took my seat
And it didn't speed back up again
'Til we were allowed to leave.
At that time, I rushed away
My tools to be stowed
The need to speak, her face to see
Explains why my feet flowed.
But alas,
When I see a sunset
Or something pleasing to mine eye
I find my mind unable
To think of anything but pie.
For beauty begets beauty
And one is best enjoyed
In the presence of the other.
